Understanding Eating Disorders Part 4
To wrap up our blog series on eating disorders, this final blog will discuss treatment options for those suffering from an eating disorder. Because eating disorders affect the individual’s physical state it is important to include close monitoring of medical and nutritional needs during treatment with the help of a health care professional. Depending on the individual’s needs and the severity of the disorder, some patients benefit from an inpatient or residential treatment program. Others may be able to attend outpatient psychotherapy, support groups, and possibly medication management. While there are certain treatment modalities that have been proven to be effective, treatment plans should be suited to fit each individual’s specific needs. Early detection and treatment of an eating disorder is hugely beneficial to the individual’s prognosis due to the extreme physical toll that can be taken on one’s body.
